DevLog 6: Midterm Milestone 3
The thing that resonates most with me was the fact that keeping a devlog helps schedule your time better. When you update a devlog, you’re always talking about things you tried to accomplish and things you’re going to have to accomplish by a set due date. It’s basically just forcing you to be accountable for yourself, and I think it’s super helpful. It unconsciously maps out an overall schedule of how you should divide up your work in the coming weeks/days because you’re always thinking about what to do. I will admit that there were many moments during this development process where I felt lost about how to begin or what to work on. Writing in my devlog helped me to break all of my tasks down and get started with my work.
Last week, I made a transition “cutscene” that would play in between levels, added in the mechanic of throwing items to distract passengers, and created a slightly more complex level by making a new passenger type. Although I felt like I didn’t do much last week, I realize now that all I have to do is make one more passenger type so that I can make slightly more complicated levels. Making transitions and adding in new passengers is very easy now because I planned out how I would do that last week. So for this week, I am likely just going to make a couple more levels, make the new (walking) passenger type, make it possible for you to hide behind other passengers, a starting screen, and perhaps some UI text that would appear to help players know what to do in each level.
